I am wondering whether it is harmful to put very hot water on seeds - not actually cook them, but to leave them to soak in very hot water. Some grain-free porridge recipes seem to either heat the seeds or put very hot water on them. What are your views on that?
I think any heat affects them but I'd not worry too much unless it is boiling. I don't know why they'd want to soak them in hot water, phytates do you think? Or just to rehydrate?
Re: length and frequency of your newsletters…I really don’t mind (sorry, I used to be indecisive but now…). Just keep them coming but please don’t get burnt-out!
Hope the sleep mask is working and you are getting some lovely healing sleep 💤
Aah, thank you. I enjoy writing them so I'll be fine, honest. Sleep mask - hmm, jury's out. Woke in an hour and had a headache. Will need to try again and see if the same happens to tell if it was that or something else. Hope you are having a nice holiday xx
I always wear eye masks to sleep and they really help me, but mine are donkeys years old and very lightweight, but think they would affect me now if they were new as they were only cheap ones.
I've never really needed to before. I tried it again last night and it seemed to be OK. I think it could be darker but it is light as air and no smell - or headache, thank goodness. Yay!
Yes I did like! Not had a chance to have a proper nosey yet but very promising. You never quite know what you are buying, and it's good you are recommending good brands. 👍
Excellent. yes, I was mindful of you saying you didn't know where to buy things that were good enough, and then someone else asked me, so I took it as a sign to do something about that lol. Bit clunky and not finished it yet but I like it!
What about omega 9? I like avocado oil, it's got a high smoke point, so less chance of oxidation, and a good mix of omega 3 6 and 9.
Also, people in the Mediterranean have been cooking with olive oil for centuries! And the Mediterranean diet is supposed to be one of the healthiest, so there can't be much wrong with cooking that way.
And I also get concerned about reused oil in cafés and restaurants. Not just for free radicals but all the contamination too. I also think it's a gross thing to do, just to save money!
Olive oil is very rich in omega 9, another reason I think it tops the list. Avocado - I'm never quite sure to be honest. There hasn't been the same level of research on it, it's piggin expensive to cook with as opposed to olive oil and not very environmentally sound with the issue of avocado growing (deforestation, monoculture, lack of biodiversity etc). I might use it occasionally as a dressing but I tend to eat fresh avocado and have limited those.
Agree with the reused oil thing - just thinking about it makes me feel queasy!
Did you like the new essential oil section, btw, I was thinking of you a bit as I was doing it!

Another very interesting newsletter, thank you!
