Kapparrest has things in that I don't currently tolerate. But the willow effect on prostaglandins is interesting. Any value for MCAS? Aspirin is just not something I've ever really taken, I tend to choose nurofen and paracetamol. Not sure either are good for me so would be good to have the willow as a natural option. Resveratrol doesn't seem to do a thing for me.
Hi, in the factsheet you mention white willow as a potential pain supplement. I've been interested in this for a while. Can it be used in the same way as ibuprofen, as and when etc? I appreciate it has a different action and WW is probably not as strong, but they are both anti-inflammatories. I'm also wondering how it compares with turmeric and resveratrol as natural anti-inflammatories in the long term.
I tend to think of white willow as an as and when, as you say. Salicin is the active ingredient and works in similar ways to acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin. In fact, in the 1800s, salicin was used to develop aspirin. As far as I know it acts on the prostaglandin levels to lower inflammation which most of the anti-inflams do. I think the resveratrol etc works more on the NF kappa B pathways. It's a question of finding what works for you. I mentioned willow because I know patients who have found it helpful for headaches in the same way as they might take aspirin. In general, I like a synergistic mix of anti-inflams if poss as they seem to be better together. My fave is KapArrest: https://naturaldispensary.co.uk/products/KappArest_180_s-3825-0.html

BTW, found a great herbal resource over the weekend
https://www.herbalreality.com/herb/white-willow/
It's run by the guy who founded Pukka Herbs, and he's got herbal and Ayurvedic qualifications coming out his ears.
You can look up any herb, and you get a lot of detail, and there are also some very interesting articles. Fab!
