This was very interesting, Micki! I also have PCOS, and at 55, I'm not entirely sure whether I've officially hit menopause or not. At 50, I got off the pill (which I've taken most of my adult life for the PCOS) and had my hormones tested. MY ob-gyn said I wasn't even perimenopausal yet. I'm on HRT now, which is milder than the pill I was on, she said. Not sure what sense to make of hormones, but I definitely have nearly all of the symptoms you mention. I've never heard anything about adrenal function. Guess I should look into it.

Hi Anne. Yes, I have fallen into the trap of believing that everyone knows this stuff as I live and breathe it every day (professionally and personally!) so it always surprises me that people come to it new, you know? Like Miranda Hart recently - why the heck did it take 10 years to diagnose ME from Lyme disease?! She just needed to talk to a functional medicine practitioner that knows their stuff. Makes me sad. Anyway, hence me trying to get my info out there more effectively and spreading myself around a bit. Ooer.

Re your hormones, that doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?! If they thought you weren't peri, why put you on HRT?!

I have plenty of symptoms. A big one for me was hair loss when I was off the pill and now I’m shedding again on the HRT. It’s so complicated, and I don’t know how they get a read on hormones when they’ve been messed up

My whole life from PCOS.

Ah, I get asked about hair loss a lot! My factsheet on it might help. I've got a post on it lined up for here shortly too. https://purehealthclinic.co.uk/health-a-z/alopeciahair-loss/. It sounds to me like the HRT is increasing your oestrogen but you are aromatising it to more testosterone and possibly converting it to DHT, the very strong androgen. That's a sheer guess, obvs! I have also just written a new factsheet on PCOS, I'll be releasing that shortly. PCOS is the number one cause of hair loss, but also look into your thyroid.

I've just published the new PCOS factsheet - it needs a bit of tweaking but it's pretty much there. I thought it might help as a few people have been asking me about it since this post! https://purehealthclinic.co.uk/pcos-polycystic-ovary-syndrome-101/. Hope it helps x
